Dr. Sofia Wenzler

Sofia joined the SFI team in 2020 shortly after moving to Tel Aviv from Germany, where she practiced as a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). In addition to her clinical training, Sofia focused on her work in the research of emotion processing. She assessed behavioral and physiological reactions of psychiatric patients suffering from recurrent depressive episodes to negative emotions and compared them to the reactions of healthy individuals.

In addition Sofia collaborated with Dr. Hillel Aviezer from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem to assess facial expression ambiguity in adults and children during intense situations. Sofia was awarded a full doctoral scholarship by the Federal Ministry of Education in Germany for her research. While finishing her doctoral degree and obtaining her clinical license, Sofia taught different seminars at the Goethe-University in Frankfurt in the departments of Social Psychology, Clinical Psychology and the International Summer School. During her studies she enjoyed getting to know different aspects of psychology, worked as a tutor in the departments of educational psychology and statistics, and participated in an afternoon therapy program for children suffering from autism spectrum disorder.

Sofia holds a B.Sc. in Psychology from the University of Giessen as well as a M.Sc. and a doctoral degree in Psychology from the Goethe University of Frankfurt, Germany.
